The Lunar New Year in the early days of February marked the start of the Year of the Water Tiger.
It is said that the new year will be auspicious, exciting and eventful. We’ll contribute to the year’s events with the TCM Kongress Rothenburg, which takes place online from 24 to 28 May 2022 and offers a varied, top quality programme with many different subjects from all fields of Chinese medicine.
Please note one important change.
Again, this year, the congress will be held exclusively online. We made this decision after careful consideration. The hybrid concept combining digital and on-site options, which is what we had planned, will have to be put off until next year’s congress.
Rest assured that we regret having to make the change to meeting digitally again. Many arguments, however, can be made for this solution.
For one thing, the pandemic situation remains confusing. Sticking with our plan for a live event would be risky since it is not clear which rules will be in effect in May 2022. We have to assume that potential participants would be uncertain and consequently decide against taking part on site.
Another reason involves finances. Holding a hybrid congress is much more expensive than a digital one. Of course, we realised that when we began planning. We know it isn’t possible to finance a congress with participation fees only. Every year we depend—not to an insignificant extent—on support from sponsors and exhibitors. Unfortunately, the corona pandemic has cast its shadow here too. A reluctance to participate on site has become unmistakably perceptible and has thrown into question how a hybrid congress could be funded.
As we are committed not only to every single congress, but to the 52-year-old tradition of the TCM Kongress too, we decided in favour of this low-risk variant of the online congress. Once again, this year we can be sure that we will be able to present a highly varied congress with renowned speakers.
