Dutch Association of Chinese Traditional Medicine (NVTCG ZHONG)
If you are the administrator of this association, and you would like to change information on this page please click on update.
NVTCG Zhong is the Dutch Association for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), established in 1993 as the professional association for therapists with a completed HBO education in the field of TCM. The association holds its members to high standards, prioritizing quality and care in practice. Zhong actively encourages its members to pursue continuous professional development, ensuring that those seeking treatment from a Zhong-affiliated therapist receive care from a well-trained TCM practitioner.
Zhong is dedicated not only to professionally trained therapists but also to individuals interested in learning more about Chinese medicine. For any inquiries or additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the association.
In the Netherlands, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are considered complementary therapies. While acupuncture is widely practiced, it is not regulated by specific laws that grant acupuncturists exclusive legal status as healthcare providers. However, TCM practitioners must adhere to general healthcare regulations.
There is no national law that specifically regulates acupuncture and TCM as standalone professions. However, acupuncture practitioners are subject to the Dutch Medical Treatment Agreement Act (WGBO) and must comply with general healthcare laws, such as maintaining patient confidentiality and consent. Additionally, acupuncture is recognized under the Dutch Health Insurance Act (ZVW), allowing some patients to claim insurance benefits for acupuncture treatments, but only if the practitioner is registered with a recognized professional organization.
Dutch acupuncture and TCM professionals may be able to register and practice in other countries depending on the specific regulations of each country. However, there can be limitations. Some countries may require additional certification or proof of specific training recognized by local regulatory bodies. It is important for practitioners to research the legal and professional requirements in the destination country before practicing there.
In the Netherlands, acupuncturists generally work under the title “acupuncturist,” although some may use the broader term “TCM practitioner” if they are trained in a range of traditional Chinese therapies. The use of the title “doctor” (such as “Doctor of TCM”) is not allowed unless the practitioner has a recognized medical degree (e.g., MD) in addition to their TCM qualifications.
